Sexuality: Pretty much asexual. It's never stated one way or the other, but he's not all that interested.

Appearance: Joel has messy brown hair, brown eyes, and a very normal-looking build. He tends to have a constant sleepy-eyed look, and he moves at a slow, easygoing pace.
He wears a maroon-red jumpsuit with a checkered pocket and "Gizmonic Institute" patch. He also wears plain white tennis shoes. He rarely changes out of this outfit, and if he does, it's into another jumpsuit or casual clothes.

Personality: Joel is an easygoing guy who always seems just a little bit out of it at best, and at worst, some would say "stoned". He appears easily confused, although he is rather observant. Joel is hardly ever phased, whether by threats or otherwise, and never quite seems to take any such remarks seriously. He's suffered worse, and whether or not it's true, he expects everyone else he speaks to take nothing that he says too seriously. It's also extremely difficult to get Joel angry: he even seems to show some kind of patient affection for the mad scientists that shot him into space. Years in space have made him a huge jokester...if there's a riff to be made, he'll be the first to do it. Although he may appear as completely joking, Joel is actually very good around kids, and will tone down his humor if he thinks families or children might be watching him. Even if he's not actually riffing, Joel loves to entertain, or just bring a smile to some sad soul. He's very much a homebody and is comfortable no matter how bad his surroundings may get, although through inventions he can obviously fix up the little problems or tailor such surroundings to suit him.

Abilities: (For superhuman powers/strength/abilities, describe how they will be limited)

Joel's "powers" consist mostly in the realm of snark. He can look at most any person or situation and find some way to make fun of it. Aside from his snarking skills, Joel has the uncanny ability to take random household junk and make new inventions. However, his inventions are rarely useful or practical...just amusing. He has some skills with robotics, and can build and maintain sentient robots...although again, they are not so much useful as they are amusing. Neither of these skills should be affected by Manhattan.

Because of his skills with robotics, tweaking the ship's computer and inventing things, Joel has decent hacking abilities: he can hack entries listed medium or lower. He can on some occasions hack a difficult journal entry, but not without quite a bit of luck.

Weaknesses: While Joel has many odd skills, fighting is not one of them...he'd be fresh bait as far as crabs or the monster were concerned. Also, because of the effects of riffing on so many bad movies over the years, Joel suffers from the inability to take anything seriously. He is not the person to go to for advice, whether it be romantic or practical, as it's likely he'll only respond with a joke. It's also likely he'll offend someone else who's taking themselves or their situation too seriously.

Manhattanite or outsider? Manhattanite. After he escaped from the Satellite of Love, Joel got himself a small apartment in Manhattan, where he lived fairly comfortably until the monster attack.

History: Easygoing Joel Robinson went through a series of temp jobs before he eventually wound up working as a lowly intern at Gizmonic Institute. His boss, the mad scientist Dr. Clayton Forrester, decided to use Joel as part of his greatest experiment: to find the worst B-movie known to man and use it to conquer Earth. Dr. Forrester, with the help of his assistant TV's Frank, launched Joel into space and forced him to watch terrible B-movies on the orbiting Satellite of Love.

In order to keep himself from going crazy, and because he was lonely, Joel used parts around the satellite that controlled the movies' beginnings and endings to instead make four robot companions. His robot buddies were Cambot, who recorded the Satellite's escapades, Gypsy, who ran and repaired the satellite, and Crow and Tom Servo, two wisecracking robots who watched the terrible movies with him and helped him mock and riff them. Between horrible movies, strange visitors, and exchanging wacky inventions with the mad scientists on Earth below, Joel's days were never dull...even if the movies sometimes were.

After about five years aboard the Satellite of Love, during the trio's watching of the movie "Mitchell," Gypsy overheard Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank plotting to kill Joel. To save his life, Gypsy got Joel rocketed back to Earth in an escape pod discovered aboard the ship, conveniently named the Deus Ex Machina. The robots were left on board the ship, but they soon found a new companion as Dr. Forrester sent up fresh young intern Mike Nelson to take Joel's place.

As for Joel, upon reaching Earth, he moved to Manhattan and set himself up quite comfortably in an apartment. He kept an eye on the experiments Mike was forced to watch via Cambot's video feed, just to make sure Tom Servo and Crow were behaving themselves (of course they weren't). Otherwise, he was content at the fact that he'd never be subjected to another B-movie monster again.

That is, until a living B-movie monster showed up and stomped all over his city.
